: , yr new favorite site cats on earth - info dr. science and the creation of cats on earth in september of 1998, chris oldaker and friend milton carrillo began experimenting with a live setup of analog and virtual-analog synths with old school drum machines and effects boxes in the electronic music lab, in los angeles. in february '99 they started jamming together and recording the results on to cassette tape. for the better part of four months they continued jamming almost daily and in june of that year, they decided to put those tracks onto DAT and make an album for their friends to listen to. the result was "dr. science presents...", 10 tracks of robotic hip-hop video game music that was as laid back and cheezy as they were. their friends loved it and the two of them enjoyed making tracks together, so they continued to work and returned to the lab the summer of 2000. their next outing was "exotic production", a drastic change from the stiff electro sounds of "presents...", it showed their love of lounge music, hip-hop and all things campy. while chris and milton enjoyed making tracks together [still do], they both continued to make music on their own and haven't put out an album since "exotic production". in january of 2001, chris released an album of solo tracks under the alias cats on earth titled "mama told me to pimp hard [and i wont let her down]". it was a weird mix of lounge, soul, hip-hop, southern bounce, and trip-hop that almost got him signed to ninja tune [long story though]. since then, he has released two more albums under the CoE alias, "throw aways", a compilation of tracks that wouldn't fit on "pimp hard" and "coe sessions", a compilation of remixes he did in 2001. in 2001 he also released an ep of ambient tracks under the name qmulus. chris continues to make and release tracks and is involved in several projects at the moment. including production work as d.j. salinger for berkeley based rappers pimpernickel and mc nicoli. photos : , yr new favorite site : , yr new favorite site
